Essential oils have been used for thousands of years for cosmetic purposes, as well as for their spiritual, healing and emotionally uplifting properties. I've only started incorporating them into my life over the last year or so but have completely fallen in love. They are more than just nice scents, they are powerful plant extracts that offer a variety of support for your overall health and wellness.
Whether you want to boost your energy, supplement your diet, flavor meals, manage your weight or up your beauty game, these little oils are amazing! Below I'm sharing 5 of my favorite oils with you that I use nearly every day. If you're interested in learning more about essential oils and how they can help you then please leave your questions in the comments. I'd love to help!
Di-Gize Oil
This oil is amazing for digestion. I normally take it in the evenings before dinner or if I'm going to eat something that may upset my stomach. I add 2-3 drops to a warm glass of water and sip it while I eat. It helps me digest my food properly, absorb nutrients and also calms my stomach down if it's upset or achy.
Thieves
So, this week my husband came down with a wicked case of the flu. He was probably the sickest I've ever seen him. Trust me, it wasn't pretty. I was terrified that I'd catch the bug since basically our entire apartment was infected with his germy flu, so I used nearly every drop of my thieves essential oil. Thieves essential oil is a blend of lemon, eucalyptus, cinnamon bark, clove and rosemary oils that help support your immune system. I added 2-3 drops of the oil to my warm tea and even my coffee 3-4 times per day this whole week. Guess what, I didn't get sick! So, unless I'm just a far superior being than my husband, which could very well be true, the thieves essential oil really helped keep the flu away from me. I love this stuff so much, plus it tastes amazing! I also use the Thieves cleaner to clean nearly every nook and cranny in my apartment. It smells great and is completely chemical free.
Peppermint
This is my go-to oil pre-workout and to beat any afternoon slumps. I add 2-3 drops to my water or tea and am seriously jamming with energy within about 15 minutes. This oil is really powerful so start with just 1-2 drops in your water and then work your way up. You can also dilute it by adding some of the essential oil to coconut oil and then you can rub it on your body. It creates this tingling sensation that is great for pain and soreness.
Frankincense
Ignore the weird name, this stuff is bomb. Frankincense essential oil has an earthy, uplifting aroma that’s perfect for grounding and spiritual connectedness. I love to add this to my diffuser or dab some on my wrists before I meditate or to ground myself before big meetings or client appointments. Frankincense also helps maintain radiant skin. I'll add some to coconut oil or lotion and rub it on my face and body after a shower.
Lavender
Lavender is a classic scent but it's also highly versatile. I add the oil to my shampoo, conditioner and body soap for a nice relaxing scent. I also dab some of the oil on my feet and wrists when I'm feeling stressed or to help me fall asleep at night. You can also add some to a spray bottle with water and lightly mist your sheets and pillow case for a relaxing bedtime scent!
Modern lifestyles don’t always create optimal conditions for physical wellness so I'm always looking for ways to look and feel my best. Nutrition and exercise are a huge part of that but essential oils can provide some of the more targeted solutions you need to restore your health. Since most of these oils can be ingested I consider them a major part of my overall nutrition. If you have questions please leave them in the comments or on my Facebook page.
