The saturated fat you should have every day

By now, you probably know that certain fats are really really good for you. They speed up your metabolism, keep you feeling full, help you think more clearly and offer a host of other incredible benefits. But, there is one fat that reigns supreme over all!

MCTs, medium-chain triglycerides, which are most commonly found in coconut oil, are a special kind of saturated fat that is easily absorbed and digested by the body for quick energy. They are absorbed directly from the gut by your liver and then burned quickly making them a fantastic fat for weight loss, satiation and fast energy. In a study by the NIH, scientists found that coconut oil actually sped up people's metabolism while also curbing their appetite!

Coffee or tea with MCT oil and grass-fed butter is one of my favorite ways to get started in the morning!

These amazing little MCTs are not only fantastic for burning belly fat and keeping you full but they also protect your gut and help reduce inflammation. MCTs have anti-microbial effects which means that they help protect you from viruses, bacteria and parasites. They also contain antioxidant properties that help fight inflammation which explains their use in holistic medicine for hundreds of years.

So, since MCTs are so amazing, how can you add more of them to your diet? Well, MCTs are readily available in coconut oil, MCT oil, grass-fed butter, palm oil, whole milk and cheese. The very very best way to get a large amount of MCTs into your system is through MCT oil. I'm a big fan of Dave Asprey's MCT oil (he calls it brain octane) which I add to my coffee along with grass-fed butter nearly every morning. I find that the MCTs really do keep me feeling fuller longer but they also give me incredibly mental focus and sharpness. I'm locked in most of my morning and feel a deep sense of energy, but without that shaky caffeine feeling that I'd get from just straight coffee. To get added MCTs into my diet, I also try to cook veggies or eggs in coconut oil or grass-fed butter, I'll add it to my smoothies or even use it to make salad dressing.

So, as you can see, I'm a huge fan of MCTs and do what I can to add them into my life on a daily basis. When I'm focused on adding in healthy fats like MCTs to my diet my thinking shifts away from things like not eating sugar or eliminating grains to adding in filling and healing foods like coconut oil, MCT oil and grass-fed butter!

If you're using coconut or MCT oil in your diet I'd love to hear how you include it in your everyday life! Please share in the comments below!
