A somatic class using a blend of movement and music to regain access to feeling in the body

Our body has a language, one most of us have never learned. Our body speaks to us through tears, warmth, tingling, pain, contraction. It speaks to us through rage, sadness, fear, shame, joy and excitement. A healthy body makes space for these big feelings to come through and then move out.

Through feeling, through sensation in the body, we release. We move on. The basis for true healing is through the body, not the brain.

In this free one hour and fifteen minute class, I use my unique Fluency Method to offer tools to help you regain access to the language of your body. Within this container, we learn to feel our emotions, to get in touch with where they manifest in our body, and therefore, release.

Join me 2 Saturday’s a month at 9am PST for Body Language. This is a beautiful entry point into somatic work and also a way to deepen your experience if you already practice with somatic tools.

Strength is in how we show our emotion, not in how we hide it

The old narrative around strength was one that praised holding it together, refraining from tears, staying stoic in hard moments, and abstaining from emotion. What we know now is, access to our emotions, to our feelings, and to the sensations in our bodies is paramount for true healing and recovery. When we continue to ignore, shove down or dissociate from how we truly feel, we can never actually heal from what has happened to us. Rather, that trauma continues to live in our bodies as a stuck trauma loop. It then shows up in the body in a variety of ways including: anxiety, depression, physical pain, autoimmune, rage, low sex drive, low immune function, and so much more.

Body Language is about regaining access to the body. It's about starting a conversation with our body by learning to tune into its subtle feelings, sensations and emotions. It's about using movement and music to tune into parts of ourselves we have probably ignored for years, or perhaps a lifetime. And through that, through bringing attention to those parts, we can begin a healing process.

Body Language is based on my uniquely created Fluency Method. It is not a dance class. It is not an exercise class. Rather, a combination of intentional somatic movements, however small, and music to help you gain access to sensation within the body. And to eventually allow that for release.

All you need is a space to move, perhaps a yoga mat or blanket, clothing that allows for easy movement, and your computer or phone. Some people like access to a closed door for a deeper sense of safety and to really be able to let go during a class. Each class begins with a 10-15 minute introduction and discussion topic followed by a 45-50 minute intentionally led somatic class. It ends with 10 minutes of integration. Participants are not on camera to help you feel even safer to access deep parts of yourself. All classes are recorded and sent out afterwards, so even if you can’t attend live, register to receive the recording and begin your somatic healing journey.

Here’s what people have to say about Body Language:

I had never experienced anything like that before. I think the music was really powerful, it got me into a feeling state much quicker than doing movement alone. I felt goosebumps from energy releasing within the first song.
— Erica E.
The somatic practice helped me feel embodied and in touch with my emotions faster than any other practice. While restorative yoga and massage focus on calm, I appreciated the permission and encouragement to tap into anger and sadness. I typically have a hard time allowing myself to feel these tougher emotions but the music and movements brought them up. My body wanted to freeze as the emotions arose, but with Darby’s encouragement to keep moving, I noticed they passed quickly like a wave washing over me. I didn’t need to figure them out or get too attached, I just kept moving in connection with my body and I got chills all over as the energy released. This work is really impactful!
— Sam M.
I felt sadness and deep anger come up. My instinct was to freeze as I felt those emotions emerging, but by remembering to keep moving, I felt the feelings wash over me more quickly. I thought it was really cool to realize that I didn’t have to identify them, sort them out, or use logic or reason to understand what the feelings were attached to or why they were there. My body could simply release them - that was powerful. I didn’t even have to cry!
— Marianna V.
Honestly this work is so valuable for me. Moving to somatic work creates a space to let old stuck emotions come up and move through me. I think the process is also helping me to experience and then learn HOW to let emotions move through me, rather than get stuck. This somatic work is showing me there’s a really lovely option three of letting the emotion go through my body and releasing it with aggressive movement.
